The Associated Press told Guild representatives during a grievance meeting on Wednesday that it will issue a written memo by Friday, clarifying its emergency evacuation procedures and plans in the event of terrorists attacks as well as employees rights to refuse hazardous duty assignments.

With the government urging citizens to prepare for a biological, chemical, or radiological attack, it is time for AP to take immediate action to protect its employees.

After fifteen months of empty promises by Associated Press management to equip its Washington, D.C., staff with gas masks and provide training, the News Media Guild has submitted the case to arbitration.
The company is violating its contractual obligation under Article 32, Health and Safety, which states, "The Employer will furnish an employee with all protective devices, including goggles and gloves, necessary to perform his/her job."
