The News Media Guild advanced an overall proposal Wednesday for a two-year contract that includes a 4 percent raise in the first year and 5 percent in the second year, which also would apply to all contractual differentials.

NEW YORK – In talks aimed at averting steep increases in the cost of prescription drugs for AP staffers, the News Media Guild reviewed cost-saving strategies with its medical consultant and AP representatives Thursday.
The AP provided information to the Guild showing that its proposed prescription drug plan changes would avoid costs of $240,000. The AP said the net savings of its plan to introduce deductibles and co-pays in the medical plan would be $369,000.

NEW YORK – The News Media Guild told the AP that its proposed sick leave benefit needed adjustments to protect staffers who could fall into unpaid gaps.
The Guild told the company that while the sick leave proposal would benefit newer staffers, senior staffers needed more protection. In addition, the union said the proposal involving recurring and intermittent diseases could expose staffers to a loss of sick leave coverage for diseases like cancer. The AP said it would consider the Guild’s concerns.
