Dear AP staffer:
The Guild's Mobilizing Committees are asking for your support in our fight to maintain quality journalism at Associated Press.
After months of slow negotiations, AP made a paltry and incomplete wage offer of 1.9%, ignoring critical issues like health care, pensions, vacation, domestic partner benefits, and other issues. And in their very first memo to staff, AP managers threatened workers, saying staffers would lose retroactive payments if the contract wasn't settled by an arbitrary Jan. 10th deadline.

The News Media Guild and The Associated Press discussed several outstanding health and safety issues Friday, from RSI prevention to supplying emergency gear for staffers, including gas masks in major cities.
Guild health and safety coordinator Jay Jorden said AP staffers are still waiting for gas masks promised a year ago. In December 2001, AP assured the Guild that gas masks would be overnighted to its Washington, D.C., staff. The gas masks have yet to arrive.
