Bargaining: Guild meets with AP on health care, parental leave; push continues on wages

Guild negotiators once again will meet with the company at the bargaining table today. We know you are eager for more details about what will be discussed and we are anxiously fighting and preparing to make more information available to you all.

On Tuesday, bargainers made encouraging progress on health care and paid parental leave after making our pitch to improve health services the week before. Today, we plan on discussing AI, temporary employees and expenses, while also keeping our focus on improving our wages.

We want to thank everyone who has participated in recent mobilizing actions. The petitions, the showing up in red shirts to the global planning meeting on Tuesday, wearing stickers demanding better pay and a fair contract around the office and to holiday parties are not happening the vacuum. The Guild is highlighting these actions and the company is taking note.

The bargaining committee has been advocating strongly on all the important issues (and those that some may feel are less important) for the EU and TU, and continues to do so. These include wages, health care, parental leave, economic differentials, night/Sunday differentials, work schedules, bureau closing expenses, temporary employees, and job security. We have told them explicitly how everyone has been getting clobbered by inflation and their 2% wage offer will not pass a membership vote.

The recent talks have been off the record in an effort to make more progress, and we are achieving that. We hope to have specific details as soon as possible. Stay tuned.
