Guild Election: Nominating Period To Open Sept. 15

GUILD ELECTION – Nominations Open

Date of Notice: Sept 4 2026

THIS IS NOTICE of the upcoming NOMINATING PERIOD for elected members of the News Media Guild Executive Committee and delegates to The NewsGuild Sector Conference and CWA Conventions.

The Executive Committee is the union’s governing body and supervises all operations. Nominating petitions may be submitted starting Sept. 15th, 2026. The nominating period closes at 11:59 PM ET Oct. 6. 2026. In the event there is only one person nominated for an office, no election will be conducted and the sole nominee will be declared elected.

You may nominate a candidate via this form or by any other verifiable written method.

The following positions will be elected for three-year terms commencing Feb. 22, 2027

NMG PRESIDENT and 1st TNG/CWA DELEGATE

NMG FIRST VICE PRESIDENT and 2nd TNG/CWA DELEGATE

NMG TREASURER and 3rd TNG/CWA DELEGATE

NMG SECRETARY and 4th TNG/CWA DELEGATE

NMG SECOND VICE PRESIDENT and 5th TNG/CWA DELEGATE

UNIT CHAIR – ASSOCIATED PRESS (only AP members may run, and only AP members may nominate candidates)

UNIT CHAIR – DEMOCRACY WORKS (only Democracy Works members may run, and only DW members may nominate candidates)

UNIT CHAIR – EFE NEWS (only EFE members may run, and only EFE members may nominate candidates)

UNIT CHAIR – FINANCIAL TIMES (only Financial Times members may run, and only FT members may nominate candidates)

UNIT CHAIR – GUARDIAN (only Guardian members may run, and only Guardian members may nominate candidates)

UNIT CHAIR – OXFORD UNIV. PRESS only OUP members may run, and only OUP members may nominate candidates)

Only members may vote, nominate, or hold office. If you have not signed a membership card, you may do so now by joining the guild. Send an email to guild@newsmediaguild.org to sign up.

CAMPAIGNING: (a) Use of the News Media Guild stationery or logo for campaign literature is prohibited. (b) Upon their request, one campaign statement from each qualified EC or TNG Sector Conference/CWA Convention candidate shall be sent with the list of candidates e-mailed to members. If candidates are dually-elected for both Local Office and Sector Conference or CWA Convention delegates, only one (1) statement for the dually-elected office(s) need be circulated. (c) Such statements of no more than 200 words must be received by the News Media Guild office no later five (5) days after the close of the nominations period. NMG shall publish on its website these candidate statements, if timely provided, in all annual elections, and special elections, if possible, before the mailing of ballots. In election stories about candidates in any Guild publication, NMG shall strive for equal space or balance and shall solicit statements, background, and photographs from all candidates. (d) The language in this Section shall be circulated to candidates.
