In the U.S., most workers are protected by the National Labor Relations Act, but few know how to take advantage of the powerful tools available in collective bargaining. While forming a union isn’t easy, it’s the most rewarding and effective way that you and your colleagues can improve and safeguard the terms and conditions of your employment.
The law provides powerful rights to employees — but many of them don’t apply unless you organize.
The law specifies that a government-supervised secret ballot election takes place after a certain number of employees indicate they are interested in forming a union.
It doesn't matter if you are in a "right-to-work" state.
The NLRA is a federal law and applies in all 50 states, and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, etc. The Guild represents hundreds of workers in so-called “right to work” states and they have the same contract protections and privileges as their coworkers. The term effects the nature of union dues — nothing else.
Our Constitution prohibits any dues for new units until they ratify their first contract. The dues are set democratically by the members of the Guild.
